Frenectomy

Frenectomy care based on function, not appearance.

A frenectomy releases a restrictive band of tissue beneath the tongue or lip when it contributes to a documented functional or periodontal problem. Recommendation and timing depend on an individualized, often multidisciplinary evaluation.

Service Overview

A small tissue release needs a complete evaluation.

An oral frenum is a normal band of tissue. Treatment is considered only when its attachment or restriction contributes to a meaningful concern involving mobility, feeding, speech, oral hygiene, gum health, orthodontic care, or another documented function.

Appearance alone does not determine whether treatment is needed. Depending on age and symptoms, assessment may include a dentist, physician, lactation professional, speech-language pathologist, orthodontist, or myofunctional therapist.

Function guides treatment

Tongue or lip appearance alone does not reliably predict whether a frenectomy will help.

Laser is one technique

Laser treatment may support precise soft-tissue removal and bleeding control when a release is indicated.

Coordination can matter

Functional concerns may require therapy or other professional support before or after a procedure.

What Frenectomy Addresses

If any of these sound familiar...

i. Tongue

Restricted tongue mobility

Limited elevation or movement may affect selected feeding, speech, hygiene, or oral-function concerns.

ii. Gum

Frenal pull on gum tissue

A prominent attachment may contribute to recession or make plaque control difficult in selected cases.

iii. Ortho

Orthodontic or restorative planning

Timing may need to be coordinated with tooth movement, space closure, or other dental treatment.

01

Document the functional concern

We review symptoms, mobility, tissue attachment, oral health, age, and previous evaluations or therapy.

Comfort & Technology

Quiet visits, supported by modern tools and a calmer pace.

Your care is supported by digital planning, gentle technique, and comfort options that fit the visit.

Focused Laser Technique Laser energy can provide precise soft-tissue treatment and bleeding control.
Age-Appropriate Planning Timing, comfort, and cooperation are considered for every patient.
Individual Aftercare Exercises or therapy are recommended only when appropriate to the specific plan.
01 Does every tongue-tie or lip-tie need treatment?
No. Oral frenula are normal anatomy, and appearance alone does not establish a need for surgery. Treatment is considered when there is a documented functional or periodontal concern.
02 Can a frenectomy improve speech or feeding?
It may help selected patients with a demonstrable restriction, but outcomes vary and the evidence is not uniform. Evaluation by the appropriate allied professional may be recommended.
03 Why use a laser for frenectomy?
Laser treatment may allow precise soft-tissue removal with bleeding control. The best technique still depends on anatomy, age, clinician training, and the treatment plan.
04 Are stretches always needed after treatment?
Aftercare is individualized. Follow only the instructions provided for your procedure and coordinated therapy plan.
