Service Overview

Comfort support with clear safety boundaries.

Minimal sedation is intended to reduce anxiety while preserving the ability to breathe independently and respond normally to verbal direction or gentle stimulation. Local anesthetic may still be used separately to numb the treatment area.

The appropriate option depends on medical history, medications, pregnancy status, breathing and airway considerations, the procedure, and the level of anxiety. Instructions about eating, drinking, transportation, and medications vary by method and must be followed exactly.

Nitrous oxide and oxygen

An inhaled option delivered through a small nasal mask and adjusted during treatment.

Minimal sedation

A carefully selected minimal-sedation option may be discussed when nitrous alone does not fit the care plan.

Screening comes first

Health history, medications, previous reactions, and procedure details are reviewed before sedation is recommended.

What Sedation Dentistry Addresses

If any of these sound familiar...

i. Anxiety

Dental fear or previous trauma

A planned pace, clear communication, and appropriate sedation can support patients who feel overwhelmed by dental care.

ii. Gag

Strong gag reflex or sensory discomfort

Comfort planning may help selected patients tolerate necessary treatment more easily.

iii. Visit

Clear Recovery Instructions You will know whether an escort or activity restrictions are required.
01 Will I be unconscious with minimal sedation?
No. Minimal sedation is intended to reduce anxiety while you continue to breathe independently and respond normally. It is different from deep sedation or general anesthesia.
02 Does nitrous oxide wear off quickly?
Nitrous oxide has a rapid onset and is removed through the lungs after administration ends. Your clinical team will confirm recovery and provide instructions before you leave.
03 Will I still need local anesthetic?
Possibly. Sedation reduces anxiety and awareness, while local anesthetic is used separately when the treatment area needs to be numb.
04 Do I need someone to drive me?
Transportation requirements depend on the selected method. Follow the specific instructions provided for your appointment.
